04-05-2008 Game 1 - Davis Vipers vs Utah Heat
Slow Start:
The Vipers opened the 2008 RMFL Season on the road Saturday April 5th in Tooele, Utah @ Tooele High School, hosted by the Utah Heat. Finally... a football game to be played. For those uniformed or out of the loop, the Vipers had two preseason games scheduled, one cancelled due to field conditions & the other cancelled by the opposing teams' inability to fulfill their commitment.
So... The Vipers' first game was to get underway, at 1:00 Sat. Kickoff was pushed back approximately 20minutes while waiting for the men in stripes to show up. Apparently an auto accident slowed their arrival to the field.
The Vipers took the field with their D only to be caught immediately off guard by the Heat's air attack & to quickly be looking at a 14pt deficit. The Heat scored on their first two possessions with 30 & 40yd TD passes. Although, stuffing the run early, the Vipers looked a little rusty defending the pass early.
The Big Red Offense seemed to have some success against the much bigger Heat defense. Surprisingly the Vipers seemed to have found a passing attack. The new found offense of the Vipers completed 15 of 21 passes for 157 yds. New QB Steve "Sunshine" Waelty seemed to get comfortable as the game progressed & new star WR Aaron Dickler, made catching passes look easy amongst a formidable secondary and line backing staff of the Heat.
The Viper D seemed to pull it together after the delayed start & shutdown the Heat offense for the rest of the game, giving up very few yards & a mere single first down from the start of the 2nd quarter on.
In what was probably the shortest RMFL game played in history (1hr 37min.. including halftime), the game seemed to come down to mistakes, & missed opportunities. The Defense missed several turnover opportunities, & it seemed every time the Offense got it going (11 first downs), either an untimely turnover, or penalties kept them off of the scoreboard.
The Vipers hope to have shakin all the rust off, as they prepare to meet the rival Bear River Rockets this Saturday in the home opener @ Davis High School 3:00pm. Should be a hard hitting game, as these two teams always seem to battle to the end. The Big Red machine is looking to fire on all cylinders Saturday and continue the quest for this years RMFL Championship.

**THANK YOU!!**
In other news;
The Vipers have finalized a trade with the Bear River Rockets. WR/DB Brandon Piles was traded to Bear River for some undisclosed equipment. Piles expressed interest in playing for BR & was looking to not be penalized by the league mandated 3 game suspension, for violating the leagues player movement/free agent rules. By both teams agreeing to the trade, Piles is free to play for the Rockets. Though we will miss Piles, we wish him the best & will be looking for him Saturday night.
