Davis Vipers vs Ogden Cats Review
The Vipers 2009 season kicked off Saturday at Ogden High School against the Ogden Cats. Winning the toss the Vipers marched down the field & put up a Ryan Davies field goal to open the game 3-0.
After a solid defensive effort holding the Cats in check, the offense was able to get into the endzone with Nate Jackson taking it in to put the Vipers up 9-0. The Vipers would take that lead into the half.
The second half had more scoring for the Vipers as Rashad Kennedy tossed the option pass to a diving Nate Jackson just inside the pylon for a second score on the day, and QB Brannon Stacy taking off on an 83yd scamper to put the Vipers up 23-0 in the third.
That would finish out the scoring for the Vipers, but it proved to be enough as the defense had a stellar day, bending a little but not breaking giving up two td's to the Cats, with no PAT's, for a final score of 23-12.
The offense truly had a team effort piling up 263 rushing yards on the legs of Nate Jackson #2, Mike Messinger #32, Rashad Kennedy #7, 22 Mike Nielson, & Brannon Stacy #4. Mad props to the O-line who helped open the holes & pave the way for a dominating rushing attack.
Defensively the Vipers were led by MLB Tony Belford #56 who recorded 3.5 sacks, 3 Forced fumbles, & 3 tackles on the day. Josh Sides #53, Tre Bailey #3, & Shawn Holman #59 each recorded sacks on the day as well.
The Vipers hope to tighten it up a little bit this week, as they play host to the Uintah Basin Oilers at Woods Cross HS 2:00pm.
